Small Northern Lights Mini Painting Pendant
Although it may be rare, occasional geomagnetic storms can cause the Aurora Borealis to be visible from the mountains of Western North Carolina. This is caused by interactions between the Sun and the Earth’s outer atmosphere.
This draws attention to the issue of our impending solar maximum; meaning our Sun is reaching a peak in the cycle of solar activity. The Sun cycle typically lasts 11 years, being documented first between 1755 and 1766, where the Sun’s magnetic field eventually flips during this cycle after the peak in activity. This year is different, as this peak was not anticipated to happen for several years. During this peak, Earth will be bombarded by solar storms with the potential to disrupt communications, infrastructure, and have a major negative environmental impact for all life.
The rarity of seeing the Aurora Borealis as far South as Western North Carolina is becoming a more frequent occurrence. The Earth is sending us these dazzling lights as a warning: we need to take action, future generations are counting on us.
20% of the sale of all Aurora Borealis paintings will be donated to The Nature Conservancy to fund research and efforts to reduce climate change.
This pendant is a handmade miniature oil painting with Iolite and Aquamarine accents, on a 1”x1” (25mm x 25mm) wood tile. All hardware is Stainless Steel, with an 18” chain and 2” extender. (18-20” necklace)
All pendants come packaged in a window gift box, with a travel pouch and polishing cloth. When storing your pendant, it is recommended to use the polishing cloth to wrap the pendant, and secure the cloth by gently wrapping the necklace around it to prevent accidental scratching in your travel pouch. Not recommended for storage in areas of high heat (near heaters, direct sunlight, hot car) as this can cause finish softening, please keep dry.
Please Note: This product contains small pieces that may be unsafe for children under 12 years old.
